Jessica Libien filed a lawsuit against her employer, Marin Bocce Federation, on March 4, 2026, concerning the mishandling of her medical leave and extensive harassment and retaliation she has experienced.

A copy of that lawsuit, as filed with the Superior Court of Marin, is accessible by this link:

Professional process servers personally served this lawsuit on MBF’s registered agent in Sacramento on March 5, 2026. This proof of service was filed with the court on the same day.

On Saturday, March 21, 2026, Board member Dan Crowl emailed Ms. Libien saying that MBF would no longer reimburse her for her health insurance because she is not on FMLA leave. This is inaccurate. MBF’s attorney, Elizabeth Weiss, confirmed in writing that Ms. Libien is on CFRA leave, which is the California state version of the federal FMLA leave law. The employer also said that Ms. Libien was paid this benefit in February due to an “administrative error” and that she would be forced to pay this approximately $600 benefit back to MBF. Those who read the lawsuit complaint will recall that this is exactly what they claimed about the wage payments Ms. Libien received during her first medical leave - that it was paid in error and would need to be repaid.

Ms. Libien has had to file another California Civil Rights Department complaint against MBF for its refusal to provide her her health benefit during her CFRA leave. It will be served on MBF on March 24, 2026, and Ms. Libien’s lawsuit will need to be amended to include this new violation of law.

Ms. Libien is able to pay her share of her health insurance premiums because of this employee benefit. The employer’s callous decision to withhold this necessary money immediately after she filed a lawsuit against them is retaliatory and designed to inflict immediate, tangible harm on Ms. Libien’s quality of life. She is, of course, on medical leave. Now she finds herself without medical insurance.
